Short bio:

Dr Vythoulkas has graduated from the School of Civil Engineering, Democritus University of Thraki in 1983 and subsequently he obtained the degrees of M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Transport Studies from Granfield University, UK, specialising in Transport Modelling and Dynamic traffic assignment.

In the period 1989-1997, he held senior research positions at the Transport Studies Unit, University of Oxford and at the Centre for Transport Studies at the University of London, working in the areas of transport informatics, short term traffic forecasting, applications of artificial intelligence in transport, discrete choice analysis, car ownership forecasting and travel demand analysis.

He was awarded prizes for his research work at the 16th PTRC conference and the 8th World Conference in Transport Research.

Since 1998, he held senior positions in some of the major transport infrastructure projects in the Gt Athens Area, such as the Athens International Airport, the Athens Suburban Railway and the Athens Ring Road. As a consultant he also had an active role in major national travel demand forecasting studies for the development of the Greek motorway network.

He is a currently an Assistant Professor of Transport Economics and Planning in the School of Surveying and Rural Engineering, National Technical University of  Athens.

His main research interests focus on the areas of transport modelling and network analysis, travel behaviour and discrete choice analysis, transport economics and policy, and application of information technology in transport.
