Study Area & Participating Organisations
The Project concerns the Europe of the 15 Member States but also encourages other countries to carry out this study.
The most important European Organisations involved in the Project are:
I. DGXI
-Environment, Nuclear Safety and Civil ProtectionThe main objective of the DGXI is to use the information on Land Cover changes on coastal zones along with the Programme on Integrated Management of the Coastal Zones (IMCZ). This Programme has been launched by DGXI, DGXIV and DGXVI.
II. European Environment Agency (EEA)
The main objective of the EEA is to provide, for the first time, quantitative information for the changes in coastal zones, by taking advantage of the European Topic Centre on Land Cover (ETC/LC) and the European Topic Centre on Marine and Coastal Environment (ETC/MCE). This information is presented in the Report for the State of the Environment.
III. European Topic Centre on Land Cover (ETC/LC)
The main objective of the European Topic Centre on Land Cover, is to gain experience on Research and Development R&D, which is necessary for the use and the exploitation of the CORINE Land Cover (CLC) database.
IV. Joint Research Centre (JRC - Ispra)
The JRC through its CEO Programme aims:
- To enhance the use of Earth Observation data,
To develop and test methodologies in order to satisfy the needs previously described, within the framework of the Research and Development Workpackage of the Topic Centre on Land Cover,
- To contribute to the up-dating of information (CLC included),
- To foster co-operation of partners already involved in coastal zone management.
