Groundwater data: General Back to first page Previous Next

The ancillary data used in the research project concerned  springs and boreholes  located at crystalline rocks of the island.

Spring and borehole data were collected mainly from authorities of the Cycladic  Prefecture. Information was also provided by each village Council, and the Institute of Geological and Mining Research.

The spring data collected were:
  • location
  • type
  • average discharge
  • aquifer
The borehole data collected were:
  • location
  • depth to the water table
  • average discharge
  • aquifer
Spring data were considered to be the most complete and accurate and were used in a series of statistical tests to analyze the relationship between the yield of a spring and its location relative to the position of a remotely sensed lineament or to a function of the spatial distribution of the lineaments.
Borehole data were used to test the results.
Both spring and borehole data were computer processed  and added to a G.I.S. developed for Naxos.
