The light reaching the sensor is reflected by the individual components.
The total reflected light depends on the total surface area of reflection,
and the physical properties of each type of particle that determine what
fraction of the incident light is reflected (the albedo). |

Under the most simplifying assumptions, this approach leads
to an equation that says: The albedo of the mixture is a linear combination
of the albedos of the pure components, with the linear coefficients equal
to the mixing proportions on the ground. |
