In order to benefit from the advantages of conjunctive and disjunctive fusion, and to avoid their disadvantages, Dubois and Prade [Dubois and Prade, 1994a] have proposed some adaptive methods modifying the behaviour according to the information to be fused.

There are two main methods of fusion: conjunctive and disjunctive:

• If the sources to fuse agree, then conjunctive fusion is used, with renormalization if necessary.
  
  
• When a conflict occurs, disjunctive fusion is used to supplement information resulting from conjunctive fusion.
  
  
• Finally, if no agreement can be found between the sources, conjunctive fusion is left, and disjunctive fusion is performed.
