The images that follow were created by computer simulations
so that they imitate real scenes. Each element in these scenes corresponds
to 1 m2 . Each scene is illuminated by the sun from the East-West
direction. The sun is 45o above the horizon. The height of each
tree is variable, with mean height 3m. (For more details on how these scenes
were created see M.Faraklioti, 2000, NDVI and Mixed pixel Classification,
PhD Thesis, Surrey University).
As the size of each tree has been randomly chosen, it is impossible to construct
scenes with exactly prespecified vegetation cover. The vegetation cover of
each scene was determined afterwards, by computing the vegetation pixels
(both shadowed and illuminated). Table 1 below gives the actual vegetation
cover for each scene. |
