Advantages of the method

• A whole set of pixels is unmixed to identify the average mixing components of a single region.

• The equations that relate the mean reflectances of the pure and mixed classes are supplemented by the equations that relate the moments so a more accurate solution may be obtained.

• There are more equations available than spectral bands, so in principle more pure classes can be recovered than bands available. This possibility was exploited by Faraklioti and Petrou  in "Recovering more classes than available bands for sets of mixed pixels in satellite images" (Image and Vision Computing,2000).

• The non-linearities arising from the intra-class variability of the pure classes are incorporated in the solution.
