Extraction of the Urban Areas




In the second band of a XS or P+XS SPOT image (Figure 60), buildings appear as small rectangles (one to sixteen pixels) which are extracted to detect the built up regions. Then, the resulting areas must be grouped to define the urban areas. As the extraction of the rectangles is a difficult task, the original image is transformed to obtain the corners of the rectangles.
